This large vine grows to be 10 to 15 feet tall and 6 to 10 feet wide in USDA hardiness zones 4 to 9. They're smaller the first few years but once established, they take off. This vine is relatively low maintenance and only needs to be pruned in late winter or early spring to 12 to 18 inches above the ground. This clematis is in pruning group 3. Flowers appear on new wood. It grows best in loamy, moist soil that is well drained.
